By Italia of Italia Story Co., a Charleston and Lowcountry wedding photographer

If you're planning a 2027 wedding in Charleston, one of your first questions is probably how much a wedding photographer costs. The honest answer is that it varies a lot. Here's what to expect in the Charleston area, what drives the price, and how to decide what's right for your day.

The Short Answer

Charleston-area wedding photographers publish starting prices from under $1,000 to well over $7,000. Most full-day coverage from an experienced photographer lands somewhere between about $3,000 and $5,000. Packages that cover only part of the day, like the ceremony, are usually lower, and luxury or multi-photographer collections with video are higher.

Photography is also often around 10% of a couple's overall wedding budget, which is a helpful starting point when you're deciding what to spend.

What Affects the Price

  • How much of the day you want covered. Ceremony only costs less than getting ready, ceremony, and reception.

  • Experience and style. Photographers with more weddings and reviews usually charge more.

  • The date. Saturdays in peak seasons, like spring and fall in Charleston, are typically higher than weekdays or off-season dates.

  • A second photographer. Many full-day packages include one, and it adds to the price.

  • Travel. Weddings outside the photographer's area may include travel costs.

  • Editing and delivery. Careful editing takes hours after the wedding, and that time is part of what you're paying for.

  • Extras. Engagement sessions, albums, and printed enlargements are often add-ons.

My Wedding Packages

I price my collections by the part of the day I'm there for, not by the hour like many photographers who sell 6-hour or 8-hour packages. Most couples don't know how many hours they need, but if you're comparing, The Timeless is comparable to an 8-hour package from an hourly photographer.

Questions to Ask Any Photographer Before You Book

  • What exactly is included in each package, and for how long?

  • What does it cost if the day runs over?

  • How much is the retainer, and when is the balance due?

  • How long until we get our gallery?

  • Do we get printing rights to our images?

  • What happens if you're sick or unavailable on our wedding day?

  • Do you have a backup plan for your equipment?

  • Can we see a full wedding gallery, not just a highlight reel?

Do You Tip a Wedding Photographer?

Tipping isn't required, but it's appreciated. If your photographer exceeds your expectations, a tip in the range of $50 to $200 is common. If a second photographer is involved, tip them separately. Also plan to feed your photographer if the day is a long one, since they'll be working through dinner.

How to Choose What's Right for You

Price matters, but it shouldn't be the only thing you compare. Look at full galleries, choose a style that matches how you want to remember your day, and make sure you feel comfortable with the person who'll be next to you for the most emotional moments. FAQ

How much does a wedding photographer cost in Charleston, SC?

Starting prices range from under $1,000 to over $7,000. Most full-day coverage from an experienced photographer falls between about $3,000 and $5,000.

How far in advance should I book my Charleston wedding photographer?

Book as soon as you've confirmed your date and venue, especially for spring and fall weekends, which fill up first.

Is a more expensive photographer always better?

Not necessarily. Price often reflects experience, hours, and what's included, but the best fit is someone whose style you love and whom you trust. Look at full galleries and read reviews.

What's the difference between hourly and package pricing?

Hourly pricing charges for time on the clock. Package pricing, like mine, covers a set part of the day, such as getting ready, ceremony, and reception, so you know what's included up front.

Do you offer engagement sessions?

Yes. My engagement session is $324 and is a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding.

Why Choose Me?

Every photographer will tell you they're the right fit, so here's what I'd want you to know about working with me:

  • Documentary-inspired, with an editorial eye. I focus on genuine moments and natural emotion: the hand squeeze, the unexpected laugh, the way your people look at you. I also create portraits that feel intentional and artful.

  • Guidance without a photoshoot feel. I give direction when you need it, then step back. Couples tell me their wedding day never felt like a photoshoot, and that they were comfortable in front of the camera.

  • One focus: your photographs. I specialize in wedding photography and don't offer video, so my full attention is on capturing your day.

  • Natural, true-to-life editing. Every image is professionally edited for color and consistency, without changing how you naturally look.

  • Clear pricing. My collections and what's included are listed above, so you know what to expect before you reach out.

  • A 5.0 rating. Couples and clients have left me 5-star reviews on Zola and Google.
